Some competitions have a club round, which sees club members pit
their wits against each other. There are three competitions that have
a club round: the Craft Competition, the Home management competition
and the Ulster Young Farmer.
Craft Competition:
This competition is judged at the end of January. Members can work
at a piece of craft at home and it will be judged at a club round.
Three pieces from each age group can be entered from each age group.
Home Management:
This competition allows members to practice skills at home making.
There are four or five tasks set, which may include: icing a bun;
sewing a button; making a mask.... This competition takes place around
the start of December in the club hall and is usually judged by Nan
Irvine and Doreen Hogg. The first four from the club go on to the
County final which is a written paper, then the best in the county
go to the Home Management Northern Ireland finals, which is a cooking
competition.
Ulster Young Farmer:
Previously this competition was only open to under 16s, but it has
recently been extended with the introduction of a Junior paper. This
competition takes place in November and takes the form of a multiple
choice question paper. The subject matter is agriculture and is adjudicated
by the club president, currently Gareth Rainey. If you are successful
you will make it through to the second round for a question paper.
This is the most prestigious competition in the organistion and if
you win your prize will be awarded at the annual conference.
